NRF Removing Barriers to Learning

Secondary Intervention Programme 2006/8

ALL Bolton secondary schools are invited to nominate a member of staff and up to 15 students to take part in the NCSL Student Leadership Course as part of Bolton’s ‘L Factor’ Young People’s Leadership Programme

The NCSL Student Leadership Course has been co-designed and co-developed by young people for young people. It has taken three years of working with over 700 students from 60 schools to create a course that will truly inspire other young people to become leaders in their schools and communities.

After attending the course young people will have developed an understanding of:

Themselves and how they can be a leader

How to work with others to create successful teams

What leadership roles they could take at school and their communities

How to manage a project and the importance of accountability, evaluation and reflection

AND WILL HAVE

Improved their communication skills and ability to speak in public

Increased their self esteem and confidence through a course that has made them feel good about themselves

What does the ‘L Factor’ Programme involve?

A one-day NCSL ‘Train the Trainer’ course for adults designed to teach them how to facilitate the course in-house.

Access to all the resources needed to deliver the programme again (and again…)

A young people’s three-day course

High Rid

A big well done to all the students and staff who braved the Great British Summer to take part in the High Rid Fun Day on the 28th June!  Despite sub zero temperatures, no shelter and soapy tea (OK, a slight exaggeration but it felt like it at the time) staff and students gave it their all and showed real stamina and spirit by taking part in team games and water sports organised by the Youth Service at High Rid reservoir.

Photograph's of the day are now on the gallery.
